Learning shared in new animation and COVID case studies booklet

Two new resources have been published which may provide some inspiration to help schools position PE, sport and physical activity at the heart of their recovery plans.

'Recovery and moving on with COVID' includes case studies collated in November and December 2020 following the first lockdown and after pupils had been back in school for a couple of months. The detail and learning incorporated in the case studies may prove useful as schools look to rebuild pupils' confidence, sense of belonging and wellbeing.

Schools are encouraged to take the time to read the booklet and consider how some of the learning from these schools could be used to help inform their own plans.

A new animation video is also available, which looks back at how children and young people were supported to be active through the School Games programme during the first national lockdown, with a collaboration between School Games Organisers in Derbyshire and Notts, Active Derbyshire and Active Notts.

The animation includes learning about collaborative working and insight into what helped to motivate young people and make them feel more comfortable and confident to take part in physical activity.

As many children and young people return to school with a reduced level of confidence and physical competence while being away from school, this insight may prove particularly useful in ensuring that their return to activity and competition within the school environment is a positive one.

Alongside the animation a booklet is also available which aims to showcase best practice examples of how schools utilised the School Games resources. This booklet was circulated to schools in the Autumn term, but the learning within it will still be very much relevant.
