Amber Valley ICON athlete Jessica Hancock (pictured right) has been selected as one of 12 chosen for the Great Britain youth squad (Under-18) for life saving.
The 15-year-old, from Denby, is among the dozen swimmers from both the ocean and pool disciplines who will have regular training camps across the country during the next 12 months as part of the long-term preparation for the next World Championships in 2018 in Adelaide.
Jess's short term goal now is to be selected for the youth team to represent Great Britain at the European Championships in Belgium in September.
"We are really proud of Jess, as she has worked extremely hard to achieve her place on the squad, despite breaking her ankle in November," said mum Joanne.
"She has received a great deal of support from her school (John Flamsteed Community School) with her training and we would wish to thank them for this."
Jess now has to submit weekly training reports to the Great Britain squad manager, helping to keep her training on track.
And her efforts have been rewarded with some very strong results in the recent RLSS Nationals speeds competitions, finishing second overall in the 18 and under female section.
Meanwhile, another ICON athlete, North East Derbyshire's Adam Morewood, has enjoyed a stellar start to his 2017 season.
The 15-year-old bike trial rider, from Dronfield Woodhouse, was in action in Belgium, competing in round one of the Belgium National Cup.
Riding two catalogues higher, he took on some of the best riders in the world in the elite category in order to gain experience for next season, when he can compete in World Cup events.
The terrain suited the teenager, with it being just like home in Derbyshire – wet, muddy and slippery.
Adam enjoyed a fantastic day to finish on the podium in third place behind multiple world champion and Red Bull athlete Kenny Beleay and the 2016 UK Elite Champion Andrei Burton.
His next event is round one of the UK National Cup in Yorkshire on the April 2.
