Let’s Go Ride a Bike

Derbyshire Sport Trust has been awarded £8,940 from the Morrisons Foundation for their 'Let's Go Ride a Bike' project.

The project is to encourage and support more disabled people and people with limiting illnesses to be able to enjoy the benefits of cycling.

The funding will provide training for approximately 50 volunteers to support six inclusive cycling hubs across Derbyshire.

There's an excellent range of adapted bikes available at the hubs including side-by-side three wheelers, wheelchair carrying bikes, hand cycles, racing recumbents, low rider step over trikes and tandem trikes, among others.

The funding will also provide cycling experience training to 50 young people (from 11 to 17 years of age) with disabilities or limiting illnesses to help them become more competent using the bikes on quiet roads.

The Morrisons Foundation is funded in a number ways including through receipts generated from the sale of carrier bags.

The Foundation provides grants towards projects undertaken by registered charities such as the Derbyshire Sport Trust. The Foundation believes that good projects come in all shapes and sizes so they are not limiting how much applicants can apply for.
