The Skipton Building Society’s Grassroots Giving scheme is back.

The Skipton Building Society is offering donations of £500 each to 163 community groups including sports clubs across England (not just Yorkshire).

Over the last 3 years, Grassroots Giving has donated £241,500 to 483 clubs and groups. Looking back at previous winners this has included cricket, football, hockey, swimming, triathlon, tennis, archery, athletics and cross country, sailing, netball, running, boxing, table tennis, rowing, roller hockey, croquet, rugby, korfball, disability athletics…

If there's a local group, club or organisation that you think deserves some extra funding for their activities, nominations are open until 29th July 2016. You'll need to tell the Skipton how the £500 would be spent.

Grassroots Giving supports community initiatives that might struggle to get funding from elsewhere, but not registered charities. However, registered charities can apply for grants through their Charitable Foundation.

Shortlisted groups will be detailed on the Skipton's website during August with voting beginning online from 1st September 2016. The public will then be given the chance to show which groups are the most valued by their local communities. The winners will be announced in November and receive their contribution in December.

Don't hesitate to contact us here at Derbyshire Sport if you apply for a sport project in the county and get shortlisted. Hopefully we can help increase the number of votes by promoting your nomination on the news pages of our website.
