The role involves using the power of sport and/or dance and physical activity to positively engage young people in both schools and communities. Alongside the delivery you will be provided with a Level 3 Community Sport and Health Officer apprenticeship training course.

The Community Sport and Health Officer's role will:

  • Support behavioural change with children and young people, working with families and communities across South Yorkshire.
  • Work with national governing bodies of sport (NGB's) and other relevant sport development agencies.
  • Plan engaging and innovative activities using either sport or dance & fitness.
  • Understand personal and social barriers to sport or dance & fitness participation.
  • Demonstrate the effectiveness of sport or dance & fitness programmes.
  • Use customer insight to design sport or dance & fitness interventions.
  • Use ICT to monitor and evaluate programmes to measure impact and demonstrate outcomes.
  • Understand why there are health inequalities within certain schools and communities.
  • Understand the importance of physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.
  • Help to use sport or dance & fitness as a tool for social change.
  • Understand the principals of safeguarding, child protection and working with vulnerable adults.
  • Be first aid trained.

The posts will be able to:

  • Use strategies to help inactive people to become active.
  • Use various approaches to change attitudes to sport and physical activity in local communities.
  • Support people to become involved in the preparation, planning and delivery of dance & fitness.
  • Communicate clearly with a range of different groups in a range of different ways.
  • Adapt to different situations and use own initiative to problem solve.
  • Build partnerships with local communities, businesses and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure that provision is inclusive, customer focused and accessible.

The Education and Community Dance or Sport Coaches will demonstrate:

English and Maths & Qualifications:

Candidates must have any one of the following: a multi skills level 2 coaching qualification, Level 2 National Governing Body of Sport, Dance qualifications or Community/Higher sports leaders' awards qualifications.

Candidates without level 2 (or equivalent) will need to achieve this before the final assessment.

Duration:

The apprenticeship will take up to 18 months to complete. Active Fusion would seek to extend the contract period which would be funding dependant.
