Level 5 Certificate in Primary School Physical Education Specialism (Sports Leaders UK)

Developed by the Association for PE and Sports Leaders UK, this qualification aims to up skill primary school teachers and higher level teaching assistants through a recognised qualification to improve the overall delivery of the physical education curriculum within primary schools. The training includes tutored hours and independent learning hours.

Units 1-5 make up the Level 5 Certificate in Primary School Physical Education Specialism:

U1

Understanding primary school physical education

U2

Principles of pedagogy in primary school physical education

U3

Planning for continuity and progression in primary school physical education

U4

Using assessment to impact on learning and progress in primary school physical education

U5

Teaching primary school physical education

Upon successful completion of the Level 5, delegates (with QTS) will be invited to complete the Level 6 Award in Primary School Physical Education Subject Leadership (at no additional cost):

Lead sustainable development within primary school PE

Likely assessment methods include:

  • Observation
  • Questioning of underpinning knowledge – either verbal or written
  • Notes or planning work completed during the course
  • Performance of set tasks
  • Simulation
  • Video/ photographic evidence

These qualifications have been identified as an effective use of some of the PE and School Sport Premium Funding
