Pilates is a programme of exercise which focuses on core stability. It provides the basis of all forms of dance as it teaches body control, awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, keeping the body balanced and strengthening the deep torso muscles. Because it is not a high impact exercise, Pilates is also useful for alleviating everyday aches and pains, and in rehabilitation following injury. It also provides a safe form of exercise for ante- and post-natal women, Miss Keely-Anna practiced Pilates throughout her pregnancy with her twins up until 10 days before they were born. She found it helped her during her pregnancy as it aided her balance and her inner core strength helped to hold her ever growing bump causing less strain on her back, a common complaint in pregnant women. Pilates is suitable for all ages and all abilities you do not have to be fit to practice Pilates. Miss Keely-Anna provides 3 stages for almost all exercises with 1 being the easiest and 3 the hardest. If you are new to Pilates always start a new exercise at level 1 and once you feel this is no longer a challenge feel free to step to the next level. Never attempt a level 3 exercise without consulting Miss Keely-Anna first so she may advise you correctly. Classes begin with a gentle warm-up followed by mostly mat based work. 1kg weights and therabands are used (optional) to aid in strength training and stretching creating a rounded full body workout ensuring no muscle is left unworked. The class finishes with guided stretches and full relaxation
